“It is not that we have a short space of time, but that we waste much of it. Life is long enough, and it has been given in sufficiently generous measure to allow the accomplishment of the very greatest things if the whole of it is well invested.” Seneca – Dialogues and Letters
Seneca’s profound words ring especially true at the beginning of a New Year as we set our goals and aspirations.
How will you spend this year’s allotment of time?
Will you budget it well, as a valuable commodity that is worth more than money?
At the end of last year, did you look back with satisfaction on all you had accomplished and felt satisfied that you had done your best with the time you had?
I know myself, that I could get more done if I was better at budgeting my time. It often seems like there is not enough of it, but then, if I am honest with myself, I have often wasted it on things that did not matter.
Given that time is so precious, as Seneca so poignantly reminds us, one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to spend the time I have more wisely.
I will spend more time on my health and well being… walking, exercising, meditating, eating well, and only being around people who are a positive influence.
I will spend more time actively engaged with my children.
I will spend less time watching tv, and more time outdoors.
I will spend less time on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, and more time taking pictures, writing, and creating content.
I will spend more time helping and being kind to others.
If I succeed at these five things, these five reallocations of the time I have, I KNOW that at the end of this year I will be healthier, happier, have produced more, feel more fulfilled, and be able to say it was TIME WELL SPENT.
How are you planning to spend your time this year?
(Thank you Tim Ferriss for sharing your love of Seneca. As usual, you continue to positively influence my life. Happy New Year to you and yours, and may you continue to find all the time to do all that you love!)
